Top five reasons you could have balance issues

October 7, 2022

Balance is a great issue for some of us. Balance problems exist when a person has difficulty keeping a stable and upright posture, whether moving or in place.

Here are the top five main reasons for having balance issues:

  • Muscle weakness
  • Joint stiffness and decreased movements.
  • Inner ear problem
  • Some medicines (such as those prescribed for depression and high blood pressure)
  • Lack of physical activity or too much sitting.

People that have a balance problem

A person with balance problems may experience:

  • Stagger when trying to stand up, stumble when walking, swaying, or tripping.
  • Dizziness or Vertigo
  • Always falling and a feeling of falling
  • Faintness or floating sensation
  • Blurred vision

Static Balance – Balance when doing one thing at a time.

Dynamic Balance- when a person is doing more than one thing at the same time.

The problem occurs mostly in dynamic balance. However, if the person’s static balance or dynamic balance is abnormal they can easily fall and have a higher chance of injury.

People with balance problems have a fear of doing simple activities. As a result, they may avoid movements they considered hard or challenging.
