Most common injury of the knee and tricks to prevent them

Your knee joint is responsible for weight bearing and movement. It has four main structures: bone, cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. The knee is a complex joint that has many components, therefore it is vulnerable to different injuries. In this newsletter, we will not only discuss the most common knee injuries but also we will give you tricks to prevent them.

Most Common Knee Injuries:

1. Fracture

  • This injury commonly comes as a consequence of twisting( rotational) movements.

2. Sprain

  • It occurs when a ligament is stretched past its range of motion. Most often the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).
  • This injury commonly comes as a consequence of twisting( rotational) movements.

3. Strain

  • This injury occurs when the ligament is stretched and torn. Most often the Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL).
  • A rapid change in motion is commonly seen in soccer.

4. Meniscus Tear

  • It happens as a result of the knee turning unnaturally. Commonly come from playing sports that involve a rapid change in directions that can twist the knee, or even as a result of again.

Dislocation

  • Occurs when the bones are out of alignment( patella dislocation). Dislocation commonly occurs by high energy trauma, such as falls or motor vehicle crashes.

How to prevent knee injury

  • Keep your core and glutes strong
  • Stretch the muscle
  • Wear appropriate footwear
  • Avoid any sudden changes in the intensity of your workout
  • Watch your weight
