Hip injuries are a common occurrence. Older people and those with extra weight tend to suffer more with hip injuries, BUT hip pain can affect people of all ages and body sizes. Athletes and other people who frequently participate in physical activities are at a much higher risk to suffer from hip injuries compared to older people.

1. Labral Tear

  • Occurs when you tear or weaken the labrum. Symptoms of labral tear may include sharp pain in your groin, hip, or leg area.
  • Commonly caused by overuse (running )

2. Snapping hip syndrome

  • Your muscle and tendons associated with the ilipsoas become tight and stiff, creating a snapping sensation.
  • The primary symptom is a snapping sensation in the hip area as you move the tendon to change position. Commonly found in dancers.

3. Bursitis

  • Bursitis is the inflammation of the fluid-filled sac that prevents rubbing or friction between the muscle and bone.
  • Hip pain and stiffness become worse with continuous movement or repetitive actions
  • Prolonged and extreme pressure on the hip joint causes bursitis. Commonly occur in soccer players.

4. Dislocation

  • A dislocation happens when the femur dislocates away from the pelvic bone.
  • It will begin to swell or bruise and increasing pain in the afflicted area.
  • It occurs when the muscle and tendons surrounding the joint have weakened. It is commonly associated with football and hockey players.

5. Stress Fracture

  • Stress Fractures are hairline cracks along bone
  • You will have pain while standing and moving, resulting in a limp.
  • Activities or sports that are associated with running long distances are the most common cause of a stress fracture.

6. Muscle Strain

  • Muscle strain is a tearing or overstretching of the muscle. You will experience hip pain, tenderness, and weakness.
  • Overuse or improper use of the muscle causes muscle staring and are commonly found with repetitive hip motions such as swimming and cycling.
